Jadie

   1. Mistake
Jadie sat on the headrest of the sofa, patiently awaiting her morning meal.  Her tail twitched in excitement as she thought of the wonderful sound of a can of delicious, most wet food opening in the next room.  Sure enough, she soon heard the familiar click of the top of a can opening, and she dashed eagerly to the kitchen.
In Jadie's home, there were five others that lived with her.  There were(from youngest to oldest, the youngest being 2, the oldest being 12) Jacob, Robert, and Kristen, the kids. Their parents were Anne and Frank.  Jadie liked Kristen the best, she was kindest to her, took care of her, and loved her. Jadie saw that today Kristen was getting her food.  She meowed happily, and Kristen finished pouring it into a bowl, then set it in a corner of the kitchen, out of the way of the morning commotion.  Jadie trotted to it happily and began eating.  When she was done, she returned to the living room. She watched as her owners all gathered their stuff and got ready to leave in a rush.  They quickly threw open the door and rushed outside.  They had locked the inside of the door, Jadie noticed, but hadn't closed it all the way. That was normal, the door closed by itself.
She watched as the door slowly came toward Jamie in a close, but stopped when there was about two feet left from the doorway and the actual unclosed door.  Jadie looked outside and saw the family was still getting their things(and each other) into their cars.  If Jadie wanted to, she could easily escape while they were distracted, but why would she want to? She was always inside, and the only time she was outside was when she was a stray.  She got somehow seperated from her mother and siblings, and the family of people had found her and hand-raised her, but she didn't remember anything but the house she was in right now.  She'd forgotten the outside, and she had no idea what to think of it, except that she was sure she wanted to stay inside forever.
But then she saw something peculiar.  It was like the toys her owners gave her, but it wasnt attached to a string. It fluttered around and was colorful and small.  Jadie was sure it was probably quite delicate, but she felt the urge, the instinct, to chase after it.  She leaped throught the open door(she was too distracted by the strange thing to realize it was outside), and began to bat at it and chase it around playfully. She chased it to the next house and the next, without realizing it, and kept chasing it.  Finally, it was able to get away from her, and flew far up in the sky.  She finally realized she was gone, and had mistakeably escaped.
Meanwhile, Anne ran to the door when she finally saw it was open and closed it.  She ran back into the car.
"Jadie didn't escape, did she?" Kristen asked.
"No, I'm sure she wouldn't leave," Anne replied.
