As it's been over a year since anyone suggested anything here...
I was thinking, and I realized how much it bugged me (for whatever reason) that whenever a mod closes a thread (usually,) they don't post saying why it was closed (like what I used to do when I was a mod.) So, basically, I was thinking that the mods should start posting the reasons for why a thread was closed when they close one.
EX:
A role-play has been inactive for 11 (? I forget the amount) days. Instead of jsut closing it and moving it, the mod closes it, posts something like, "Closed for inactivity" and then moves it. This would stop people from being confused when they see that a thread has been closed with no explanation.

Mods usually do that, but even if they don't, it's in the red on the inactivity board. xD I'll make a post to remind the mods to do that, but if you start a RP, you should be aware when it's that inactive. ^///^

Im a little late on the whole mentor and apprentice thing but I think it would be a good idea, and even though Im an apprentice maybe you guys should have people vote or something. (I dont know thats my suggestion....)

No offence, but what's there to vote on? We don't have a system that wouldn't take up people's lives, although when you're a Warrior, you can take on an apprentice in the "Adoptables" Board.

Yea. Guess your right. The mentor thing would have been a good idea if people were active though.

I would put that under Games and Activities instead. Also that's not really a suggestion, mroe of a question, so be careful where you post things next time ;D

So, just another quick, shortly thought suggestion regarding the Roleplaying Forum. I think it's about time for the "one week closure" policy to be extended to at least two weeks, if not a month.

Before this gets shot down, here's my reasoning, and I am going to use another website as an example. BZPower is an incredibly active site, one which gets hundreds of posts in all of its forums every single day. Their RPG -- and, actually basically any sort of art -- closure policy is that, if no one has posted in it in 30 days, then it will be closed.

Why do I bring this up? Because it makes no sense for a forum that is far less active to have a closure policy that is so much shorter than that of a more active site. I am aware that I was one of the advocates for that one, but times have changed. As I'm running two RPGs on BZPower and am participating in two others, I am aware of quite a number of things that I wasn't a few years ago. One of them is that sometimes, an RPG needs to take a break so that its players can "refuel," so to speak; a week of inactivity does not necessarily mean that it's dead, as I've learned from being a GM of numerous big ones.

And to rebuke the most likely arguments:

-It would not increase the moderating teams' work load at all. If anything, it would decrease it; you wouldn't have to post warnings in the warning thread as often, and you wouldn't have to close so many RPGs at once. Not to mention, there are so few RPGs as is, whatever work is added onto the current ones is not going to be significant in the long run.

-Again, a week without posting does not necessarily mean that the players have lost interest. Some RPGs -- such as mine -- rely heavily on the Game Master to advance the plot. Numerous times, those kinds of RPGs will be forced to stop temporarily due to the unavailability of the GM, for various real-life or site-related reasons -- one of them being the need to simply take a break for a while, which is a legitimate reason to disappear for a little while. By giving people such little time -- and believe me, as you should all know, one week is not a long time -- and then closing the RPG, you're basically telling that, "Too bad, your RPG's more important." And that's not cool.

-Further, I, for one, have a hard time coming up with two-three line posts all of the time; with such a short deadline, this fact hits me even harder. A longer deadline would make it easier to keep on top of that, again reducing moderators' workloads due to them not having to delete as many one line posts. Essentially, people would have more time to think up constructive posts. (Although, on an unrelated topic, I frankly think that that policy is fairly outdated, as well. Not going to argue for it's removal right now, though.)

Basically, by closing RPGs after a week of no posts, you are potentially killing stories that people might still be interested in, but are simply taking a break from. And, really, there's nothing at all to lose by extending the cut-off date by at least a week, if not more. Hopefully you guys will consider that.

Peace.
