"Help!" Apple thought that he heard someone calling. It came again and again. Apple followed the noise. "Hello", Apple called. "Is anyone there!".
"Yes, I am.", a large Rottweiler bore down on Apple. The pup grew scared. " What do you want?", Apple tried to act tough, but he was a puppy. The Rottweiler laughed out loud. Suddenly, he flung his head down on Apple. He grabbed Apple and took him into a dark alley.........

Eye ball woke that morning to the sweet smell of kibble. He got up and shot towards where the smell was coming from. "Oh no you don't!", a large dog was trotting toward the bowl. "This is my food!". Eye ball looked at him sadly. "What? Don't give me that look you little puppy!", the dog sounded sympathetic. He looked across the room at another bowl of food. It had a few little pieces of food in it. Eye ball gobbled them up hungrily. Suddenly, the man that drove Eye ball to this place came into the room. "You want some food little doggie? Well, you'll have to earn it.". This wasn't fair! Eye ball was just a puppy. He couldn't do anything to earn food. He was going to starve to death for sure.

Apple looked helplessly up at the big dog, who was staring down at him. Apple felt likr running away. He knew he could because he could run faster than anyone at the moment. He wanted to go home! He wanted to be curled up with his brother and be sleeping to the sound of his mother's soft heartbeat. " Let me go!" he pleaded. The gigantic dog just laughed. "No way am I letting you go until you give what I want!"

Apple looked helplessly at the big dog, who was laughing. He howled and a lot of other giant dogs gathered around and laughed at him. "He's puny. He's not even enough to make me a little bit fuller," said one dog. Apple tried to look bold and strong, but he was too scrawny and weak to stand up straight. He was still a puppy and his legs turned to rubber and he fell to his side. He was helpless.

Apple finally got the strength to say something. "What is it you want?" he asked. The big dog looked at him. He began laughing again. "I want you to go and get me what I want most. I want a cat. It's been years since I've eaten a cat. If you don't get it to me in a month, we will track you down and kill you. It also has to be the plumpest, biggest cat. Get it?". What s stupid thing to want, thought Apple. "Go on, NOW!!" the dogs barked at him and ran to him and snap at him. He shot away. He was alone again.
