Ren almost gave a sigh of relief at hearing that the avatar was heading for the southern tribe. So he wasnt going to answer the call of the assasins. Just to make sure though he asked, "He isnt going to make any stops anywhere else though right?" Ren's light brown eyes were still filled with a bit of worry. He had to know if the avatar was in any particular danger at this moment. If the avatar did manage to get himself killed, the next avatar would be born soon enough to take Azula on. It would be up to the E.B.A. and himself to stop her.

"Why would the Avatar tell me?" asked the king, still looking at Ryuu strangely.
"That means he doesn't know and he doesn't care," Ryuu growled, turning away. "C'mon Ren. We need to find him before he gets himself killed." He knew the guards would let him pass, although they looked at him, shocked, as if they did not know they had almost refused entrance to the king's son. "Out of my way," Ryuu growled, and they jumped aside, almost like little mice. They would need a way to catch up to the Avatar. Salamanders could not keep up with Appa, the famous flying bison. So what could they do? Ryuu thought and thought, and suddenly remembered a rumor he had heard, once. It was back in his own section of the city, the place he called home. One of the merchants had been telling about a bird breeder, one who supposedly had bred a type of bird that was large enough to carry a person, a blue, white, and green bird. Ryuu tried to remember where he had heard of the bird coming from, but it slipped his mind. "We'll just have to go visit my part of town. Maybe the merchants still remember."

Ren had kept step with Ryuu easily and had not uttered a word. Silently he nodded and followed the boy to the market district. His light brown eyes turned every which way, trying to find whoever it was that Ryuu was looking for but without a distription he had no idea. "What are we doing down here? I dont think there is any land animal faster than the salamaders unless you have a better idea?" Ren tossed the boy a curious glance, wondering what the boy had in mind.

"You're right. There is no land animal faster than those salamanders." Ryuu kept jogging, until he reached the area near his own home. Maybe Mari's here... He cut off the thought. "But there is a special type of bird, I've only heard of it. There's supposedly a breeder, and his birds are so big, they can carry one to two people easily. They're also supposedly as fast as the Avatar's Sky Bison." Ryuu smiled lightly, and walked on. He finally saw the merchant he had heard speaking of it, that day long ago.
"Hey!" He called. The merchant looked up and surprise dawned on her face as she recognized Ryuu.
"Ryuu! I thought you joined the E.B.A.!"
"I did. Look, I have to ask you something. Remember when you heard about that breeder with the blue and white birds?"
The lady thought for a moment, and nodded, comprehension dawning on her face. "I do!"
"Do you remember where the breeder lives? We need those birds for an important mission."
The woman nodded, thinking. "I'm pretty sure that I heard he lived near the outer walls of Ba-Sing-Se. In the forest."
"Thank you! Oh...and have you seen Mari?" The last question was said much more quietly.
"Mari? I thought you took her with you when you had to leave."
"I did. Apparently the person I trusted to take care of her has let her go missing."
"Oh, I'm so sorry. We'll keep an eye out for her!"
"Thanks." Ryuu smiled a bit and turned back around. So the old man lived outside the walls. That was both smart and idiotic.

Ren lifted his brows again, "A bird?" So thats what they were looking for now. Yet despite the knowledge of where they were, it was going to take a long time to get to the outer wall. "Alright now that we know where this breeder is... How are we going to get there mister bender?" Ren put his hands on his hips and tilted his head to the side, not in a mean fashion but trying to figure out the boy's plan with pure interest. "The salamanders are back at the palace. Unless you intend to bend as all the way there its going to take almost all day."

"Bending eh...?" Ryuu thought. He could probably get the two of them to the outer wall quite quickly. He had been taught a method of transportation using bending, but it was for one person. How could he fit two? Maybe if he held Ren? "I can bend us there." It was a definite statement. "But you might have to let me carry you. I don't know any other way." He shrugged, and made sure that his earthbending powers had not left him. They had no reason to, of course, but it was good to check.

Ren gave the other boy an incredilous look. After a moment he strached the back of his head and shrugged his shoulders, "Sure i guess. It'll just look odd." The boy felt a bit of awkward feeling at being carried on the back of the other boy. Well as long as it got the job done. "Fine lets just get a move on." Ren was just glad that he didnt weigh a whole lot. The kyoshi warrior life style kept him at a maxium of 130 pounds. He need to be as light as possible to scale walls and run across surfaces like he had been taught. The only way to do that was to be fast and light.

Ryuu hefted Ren onto his shoulders, like he used to give Mari piggy-back rides, and summoned up the earth beneath his feet. It pulsed outward, and Ryuu let his feet sink into the floor, before moving one foot forward, then the other, speeding up, as if he were skating across the dirt. Ren must have weighed no more than Mari, he was that light. They soon reached the inner wall, passed it, and headed on through the housing districts of the outer area. They all had their own markets, but none were as grand as the Inner Area's markets and homes.

They burst through the outer wall, and Ryuu skated into the forest, stopping some way in. He put Ren down and shook out his legs, pulling them out of the dirt. "So...he lives somewhere around here."

Ren landed as gracefully as a cat on to the ground and turned his head every which way to see if he could see the breeder that Ryuu talked about. Yet when no such person or hut appeared in his view he began to use his tracking skills to find signs of live. It was evident that animals passed through here frequently. Yet a few soft human foot tracks caught the brown haired boy's attention. He followed it for a few feet until he managed to find a few more signs of human life. Ren turned back to Ryuu and pointed toward the south, "The breeder might be this way. I found a few tracks. Lets hopw its him." With that Ren began to follow the direction he had pointed out.

Ryuu followed Ren, gladly surrendering the lead. Ren knew where to go, he didn't. He had done his job, now it was Ren's turn. After they had walked a while, a hut appeared in the distance, a thin smoke trail floating into the sky. "That's it!" Ryuu cried, noticing the large building behind the house. He walked calmly up to the door and knocked soundly.
"'Oo's there?"
"A friend from Ba-Sing-Se."
"Ba-Sing-Se? I ain't got no friends there," an old man opened the door, his hair white and disappearing.
"You're the bird breeder, right?"
"D'you mean my Thunderbirds?"
"Yes. Er, you see, we're on important business, and we really need to borrow those birds." Ryuu didn't know exactly what he should do now.
"Got any money?"
"Some. How much?" Ryuu was anxious now. They didn't have all that much money, only enough to have paid for one or two thoroughbred horses should they have needed them.
The man stated his price and Ryuu balked. He pulled out his small money pouch, with all the coins and handed it to the man. "This is all I have." The man looked through the pouch and its contents and grunted.
"I'd be letting em off cheap if I gave em to you for this much."
"I know, sir, but please. We have to save the Avatar."
"The Avatar, eh? All right, all right. This way." The man led the two to the back, the larger building. A melodic squawking came from the building.
"Wow. They're beautiful..." was Ryuu's only comment, as he looked at one of the majestic birds. Its wings were blue, except for the very last of the largest feathers, which were white. Its head was also blue, with a little tuft of green and a spot of white. The body was blue, and the first half of the tail was brown, with the second half being green.
"Sure are." The man called out two distinct whistles, alike but also obviously different, and two of the birds walked out, wings spread lightly, to the two teens. The man took two saddles, both golden, and put them on the birds. "This one 'ere's Fenrir," he said, leading a bird to Ryuu, "and this one's Fliffer," he led the other bird to Ren. "They should listen to you, but I have reigns if you need them." The man also gave the two a pair of reigns. "And that's all you should need. They feed themselves, pretty much, and they'll come back, even if they leave. Oh, and here's a whistle, if you need them and they're not back. Both are custom. Do. Not. Lose. Them."
"Thank you!" Ryuu called, mounting up on Fenrir. The bird gave a happy squawk, and spread its wings.
