Ivoryclaw heard Amberwing's voice carry across from the river that gently flowed in to the near by pond. The peacful flow was disturbed by her entering it and causing the water to form more ripples than normal. Ivoryclaw observed it for a moment. She was more than a few ripples. Since she came in to his life she had caused his whole world to ripple like the pond in front of him. He had been content and peaceful. Now she waded out in to his life and his memories, disturbing his cool and cold depths. He didnt want that. He wanted to carry on like always. With a frown he stood and followed the river to where Amberwing sat.
"What?" he said shortly to her. He had moved in like a ghost so it scared the she cat. He looked down at her with fiercely cold and cruel eyes. Much like he would glare at an enemy.

With a sad nod, once her ceremony was over, Florestadream called to her apprentice over the congratulations. "Badgerpaw, I want you to listen, okay?" she asked once the cats had retreated to their dens. The young tom looked at her with wide, innocent eyes as he nodded yes and sat at full attention. "During the time that Ivoryclaw and Amberwing train the rest of the camp, we shall go out on a two-cat patrol -- Whitestar approved all ready. Rivershine has headed back to LakeClan -- or rather NightClan, so we are going to meet up with him at the border. I want your mouth shut, or I swear to StarClan you will run until your paws -- no, your legs -- fall off. Do you hear me? I am not trying to be mean, but I need to be sure I can tell you what we are doing so we can prepare." Her eyes were wide and kind, but there was a soft edge to her voice as she spoke that told her apprentice to agree. Badgerpaw gulped and nodded quietly. Whipping her body around, she sighed. Flicking her ear to tell Badgerpaw he was excused, he scampered off to speak to his friends while she sat at the edge of camp, watching with her bright green eyes the clan she had grown to hate and yet love.

Right now, however, her love was too much, and since love is really close to hate, she was not sure whether she loved it or hated it. Maybe both. Because, one: she loved it because now it was partially hers. She was Deputy. A large responsibility, but she would be able to handle it. Florestadream knew what went on in the camp very often. The only two cats she could never figure out were Amberwing and Ivoryclaw. But she brushed that off. Then there was the reason she hated it -- and his name began with a 'W'. Whitestar. Her fur bristled in anger. No, she did not like Ivoryclaw at all, but no one deserved to remember someone as dear to them as Amberwing, his mother, was to him. She felt pity, because, though Whitestar meant well, he did not always have a good head on his shoulders. Sighing, she stared at what now was her's, to lock away all of her runaway thoughts. Whitestar was slipping into his den -- Badgerpaw, Mosspaw and the other apprentices were all bouncing around, guessing what their warrior names would be.

Florestadream half-heartedly smiled to them as they played around, seeming like the danger lurking in the shadows was nothing. And, at that moment, Florestadream wishes the danger was nothing. A false alarm. A dream. If it was all a dream, it could not be happening. And she was still a young kit. With her parents. And friends with everyone. Even the cat she hated today. With a deep sigh, she walked to her brother and sat beside him as he stared at the moon -- something she did more often than him. But right now, she could not bare to stare at the silver giant in the sky.

Talonclaw purred sympathy to his sister and went back to silence. All you could hear was a slight breeze -- a grasshopper -- a cricket. Closing her eyes, she leaned on him and said, "What do you think mother or father would say if I said I wanted to run away?" With a chuckle, Talonclaw mimicked is father's voice perfectly. The deep voice sounded perfect to her. "'Now, Florestadream. It is your job to take care of the clan, now more than you ever have. You are Deputy now. Be careful.' And mom would say, 'Oh, Florestadream, my little kit! You've made it so far, now! Don't give up just because of one little thing. That isn't why you made it this far! Just keep walking through the storm!'" Florestadream gave a purr of laughter and nodded. "I agree."

Amberwing gasped when he popped out of nowhere, tumbling over herself and finally standing up and defiantly glaring at her mentor. She stared at him a long moment, eyes wide with anger, acusation, and hurt. "You hate me." She said after what felt like an eternity. She was going to say more, but was suddenly at a loss for words. What could she say? He did hate her. "You hate me..." She repeated, her brow knitting in confusion. "Because you love me." She stared at him, searching, then her face smoothed with understanding. "You hated me at first, because I disturbed your pretty little world, but oh, you let me in. You could have said no, and kept it the same, but deep down, you wanted change." Her face stuck with the last sylable, and she searched him now more than ever for some sense of emotion, some hint that he knew this to be truth. She began to pace. "You trained me the past few days, seeing yourself in me so much. And then you found me in the river." She paused, the memory making her bite her lip with the pain. A deep breath, and she resumed her pacing. "You found me in the river, and then you understood me. Then today." Amberwing glared at him now, her voice turning harsh. "Today I find out about you. Two kits with a bloody past, only one wants to get over it. The other is wallowing around like there's some way to make it better."

Amberwing padded up to him now, her new hatred for him comming off in waves. "So many cats have veiwed us the same, but there's one fatal difference between you and me Ivoryclaw." She took a deep breath, his scent so captivating, her love for him so strong, and let it out, shaking with emotion. "I know my parents and siblings are dead, and I'm sad for the way they left. I used the emotionless mask as a way to get by, a way to fool myself that the clan cared that I survived that attack. You are the emotionless mask, it's not a mask for you. You wound yourself so tight in the illusion that someday you'll get your revenge, and everything will be fine again. You haven't seen the sacrifice that your mother and siblings made to save you. How in this world do you think they'd appreciate the way you're living?!" She shouted now, refusing to let him get in a word. She knew these words would be like razors to him, but he needed to know what she thought. He needed to hear the words aloud instead of avoiding them like plague. "You should be living for all of them, not throwing away the one life you have, no. The one life you've been given. I don't care if you never speak to me again, but I just want you to know." Amberwing hadn't noticed the tears until they choked her off, and she had to stop to catch her breath. "I just want you to know, that I love you. I love you, and they'll always love you, and you need to stop cutting yourself off from life and start living it."

Amberwing stood now, her chin up defiantly still while tears pored down her cheeks. She had no idea what he would do or say, but she held herself with all her strength and waited for his judgement. He might not have realised it, but this was a decision. He could go on staying to himself and hating everyone and everything, which would kill her; or he could start living. e could have his own family, and live happily, giving his kits a life that his father would not, and that his mother wasn't able to. So she stood, her chin up, waiting for the decision of her life. It was in his paws now.

Ivoryclaw listend to her speech with impassive eyes. His stance never changed and he never tried to show if any of her words bothered him. Rather he began to see her as an enemy in his mind. It was the only way to keep himself from breaking down and shouting at her. He waited until she was finished speaking before he even dared to open his mouth.

The white tom glared at her with steel cold eyes. "I've never tried to show anymore emotion or feelings than ive ever needed to not because i think that i can pretend like everything will be okay. Ive never done anything that should show that i love you in anyway." His voice was simple, not full of anger. He sounded as if he was stating a calm fact rather than raging to try and deny what she had said. It appeared as if her speech had stirred nothing in his heart. "I agreed to train you because i thought it was in your best interest. Not mine. I wasnt searching for a savior and you have bestowed your own opinions on me even though i have no wish to know them." The tom's harsh eyes never left her gaze for a single heart beat.

"I have come to grips with how my mother was killed. Tragic yes... she was butchered in front of me. Any cat that can get over that would be a devil in my books... Ive gotten over it. Ive no reason to not. If i had wallowed, as you say, i would have died of depression. Instead i got over it by training. By preparing myself for the worst. That is what ive been teaching you. Sure you will learn some interesting battle techniques but what this training is for is so that when you go on the battle field you will feel no remorse, no feeling at all. You are dead inside but only on the battle field. You have given up your soul so that you can fight like a demon. I can scare the fight out of just about any cat. They are not prepared for dealth like i am."

He paused for a moment to collect his thoughts, "That doesnt mean i dont want to live. I just dont want to live the way you think i should. Ive lived this particular life since my mother and uncle died. I dont live for thier memory. Im grateful that she brought me in to this world. Im greatful my uncle raised me like a son. But they are dead. Nothing to it. Im past all that. I look to the future of this clan now."

Ivoryclaw turned from her now as if he wanted nothing more to do with her, "I took you under my wing because i thought it was what was best for you. I never wanted to get personal with this so called 'relationship'. You wanted to learn, i was willing to train. Ive never let anyone close to my heart because no one was interested in it. If you wanted to know you all you had to do was ask. I told you that yesterday. Ask and i will answer. THe only thing i will not answer is these stupid questions about my past. You said i had to get over it right? I have, why bring them up again? If you wanted to know me. The real me, instead of scampering around behind my back and askign the elders about my history, you should have taken the time to ask me what i liked to do. What my favorite battle move was. If i've ever fallen in love before. Things like that. I would have told you. I've no secrets to keep." The white warrior turned his eyes over his should and appeared as if he was looking at a stranger. "I dont love you. Ive never loved you Amberwing. Your name drives claws in to my heart only making me angrier. I will sitll train you if you wish but i know you will have nothing more to do with me and that will suite me fine."

With that the white tom forced himself to stare at her for a moment longer and turned away. As quietly as he had appeared before her, he disappeared through the fronds with an unusually calm heart. In his mind he was justified. He was an emotionless void because he must me so. If the others didnt seem to like it that way he would carry on until they through him out.

Gulping, silently, he whipped his black and white tail around and padded towards the apprentices den. Badgerpaw sat down next to Mosspaw. " I wonder what our Warrior cat name's will be, Mossi.  What do you think yours will be? " He asked her with his usually flirtatious eyes.  He turned to look at Florestadream and her brother. For such a young she-cat, his mentor had a lot on her plate, already. Their was a battle coming up, soon, and they would have to be ready for this.  But, she seemed fairly content now so his mouth began to turn up in the making of a smile. He then turned his eyes back to Mosspaw.
