Cliffheart saw Whitewhisker emerge from Darkstar's audience with a wicked grin on his face. Whatever the task was, Cliffheart knew it wasn't good if Whitewhisker seemed this excited for it. The tom couldn't stop a growl from escaping his throat, and his claws flexed as he fixed his eyes on the white tom. Why was that idiot appointed group leader? He wasn't worthy. As a TigerClan cat, he supposed that the evil tom was classic, but as a regular cat...no. He wasn't a regular cat. For that matter, Cliffheart wasn't even sure if Whitewhisker was a cat at all.

Icepaw lead his group ways away from the camp, and into old RiverClan territory. "Everyone stop for a moment." He called to them. Icepaw circled his team for moments without a word, then stopped right in front of them. "We will be heading into the horseplace. There we will find a litter of kits there, protected by their parents. We must take only one kit, and it must be a strong and promising one." Icepaw made sure his voice had only strength residing in it, and no fear. "We can do what we must, but we have to get a kit. Alive." He eyed his team, making sure they will follow his instruction. "Alright, let's head out."

Nightfang shivered as Whitewhisker rejoined them. She huddled a little closer to Cliffheart for a moment before pulling away, trying to appear confident. However the whole clan knew she was not. Whitewhisker approached and called out, "Alright you worthless mouse-hearts, lets move out!" With that the group turned, some sneers on their faces. Whitewhisker led them out of camp, nodding to Darkstar on the way. He turned his group toward the old Windclan territory, his tail high as a flag.
Nightfang followed behind, but more toward the back of the group. She would have to tell Cliffheart to pay her no mind during this trial, if he favored her to much and tried to help her, things could go badly for them both.

Thunderstep walked near the front of the group, his powerful shoulders moving beneath his golden brown pelt. Whitewhisker wouldn't have been his choice for leader, then again, he would have chosen anyone to do these ridiculous tasks. When they were a good distance from the camp Whitewhisker signaled for them all to stop. He turned, a twisted grin on his face.
"I guess its about time to let you all know the plan eh?" He chuckled to himself, thinking he was better for having known from the start. "Our task is to go to the border and wait for a patrol. If the patrol has an apprentice, we capture it and bring it back to the camp for Darkstar. He doesn't care what happens to the rest of the patrol, so I guess its up to me. I say kill them all!" Thunderstep's heart dropped, bringing the Lionclan cats in to Tigerclan was a huge mistake! If they had only just listened to him! He shot a dark look at Cliffheart, had that tom not put it in to Hornetstar's mind, his whole clan could have escaped safely and in tact. Fury filled his belly at what was going to happen now. They had to stop Whitewhisker before things got out of hand. Without another word Whitewhisker turned and began to lead the group again.
Thunderstep dropped back to have a word with Cliffheart, "So what do we do know? You're our leader," his eyes flicked toward Nightfang, "we will follow your lead. Not that sick fox-heart."

Cliffheart almost attacked Whitewhisker when he told them the plan. But when Thunderstep asked him what they were going to do, he actually didn't know how to answer. He just took a few moments to think. He dropped his voice to a whisper. "I think I have an idea. We could use our roots to LionClan to our advantage, right? I could knock the patrol leader aside and tell whoever it is that once we get the apprentice, they have to run as fast as they can back to the LionClan camp. If they're fast enough and don't give up running, it would be stupid to follow them. As for the apprentice, I'll talk to Nightfang about that. We can protect it as best we can, then bring whoever that is back when we return to LionClan." Cliffheart knew that that probably wouldn't work, but he'd seen this before. He had an idea that he thought wouldn't work, and now here he was, leading the most important patrol in LionClan's history.

The she-cat's eyes danced toward Darkstar, with curiosity peeking through the outward look of pure innocence. Her face turned into a grimice as he proclaimed Bearfur as the leader of the "A" group, as she had expected with the scene that had played out just a few seconds before. As Bearfur padded towards their "great" leader, the she-cat rolled her eyes and thought... Eventhough, he just saved my neck just a few minutes, I still don't trust his intentions. He seems to be playing both sides. Pausing for a second, Petaldancer shook out her silky auburn-ivory fur.

Thunderstep let out an uncomfortable sigh, "Very well. We will do it that way. I don't have a better plan myself." With that he trotted on ahead, Whitewhisker leading the way with his tail high in the air.

Nightfang had watched the exchange between her fellow clan mates though she couldn't hear them. She watched for a moment as Thunderstep moved away. She felt nervous on the inside about the trial to come, each step bringing them closer to abducting one of her own clan members. She just prayed that they weren't going to put up much of a fight.

Cliffheart nodded to Thunderstep as he moved away. He was becoming more and more antsy with every step he took. A few quicker strides found him next to Nightfang. He craned his neck so his mouth was level with her ear. "I have an idea. It's not foolproof, but it's all we have," he whispered. With that, he told his clanmate the plan. "Have anything we could add on to that?" he asked gently, but he couldn't keep the worried shakiness out of his voice. His tail flicked, his claws kneaded the ground. He was so nervous that this wasn't going to work and that Whitewhisker would try to kill him or one of his friends or something. He just hoped the rest of how patrol was doing better than he was.

Nightfang nodded slowly as he told her what to do. When he asked her if there was anything to add she shook her head, "Lets just try to let it be one of us that captures the apprentice." After a moment of more thought she murmured, "In fact, let it be me. You and Thunderstep fight off the rest of the patrol, I'll get the apprentice." Nervousness shook through Nightfang as thoughts flashed in to her head. Her cousin's kits would have been given their ceremony while the Lionclan patrol was away. Seeing her kin in the claws of Tigerclan warriors was more than she cold bear. With a soft sigh she turned to Cliffheart, "Let's just be discreet."
With that the patrol found themselves on the Windclan-side border. The scent markers weren't fresh, meaning either Lionclan hadn't had time to reset them, or that a patrol was on the way. Nightfang's heart pounded as she sent a glance to Whitewhisker. The pompous tom sat staring back at her, blue eyes filled with horrible thoughts. Nightfang hissed at him, wishing she had been put on Bearfur's patrol. Still, it was nice to have Cliffheart and Thunderstep with her. She could trust them to help if she needed it.
Time passed and nothing happened. Whitewhisker grew impatient, hissing to himself on the edge of the crowd. Nightfang hoped that no Lionclan cat would even be here today, then she could just leave Tigerclan. Darkstar would more than likely have the whole patrol killed if they returned empty handed, so not returning at all was looking like a great idea. However despite her hopes, in the distance a movement was made. Voice could be heard and Nightfang recognized them instantly. The voices belonged to Emberfang, Jaymask, Blackear, Mousenose and one other cat. Nightfang's stomach fell as she finally recognized who it was. The young voice belonged to her cousin's son, Sablekit, more than likely named Sablepaw now. Anxiety filled the she-cat as Whitewhisker crouched down. The unsuspecting patrol came closer and when they were finally in range Whitewhisker yowled the charge.
Instantly all the cats in the patrol leapt forward, Whitewhisker crashing in to Emberfang. The startled deputy fell under the large tom's weight. Yellowfang pinned Jaymask to the ground. The small Lionclan cat didn't stand a chance. Out of the corner of her eye she saw Sablepaw, amber eyes wide with fear and shock. The young tom had managed to catch the eye of Ottertail, the last cat in their patrol. The menacing tom stalked forward but Nightfang was already racing her way there. She jumped on top of Sablepaw, biting in to her scruff. Her kin wailed in surpass and collapsed from fear. He shivered under her, fearing that death was near. However, Nightfang pressed a paw on to his back, as if to push him down and she let go of his scruff. She turned her blazing amber eyes to Ottertail, the Tigerclan tom shocked at the outburst of the weakest of the Lionclan cats.
"Back off!" she snarled, "I'm not falling further behind because of my reputation! I intend on being a Sentinel!"
Ottertail merely lifted a brow at her, his mouth quirking in to a smile, "Its 'bout time you started showing some spirit Nightfang!" He chuckled as he trotted away, amused at her stunt.
After she was sure he was out of ear range, Nightfang whispered to Sablepaw, "Easy now little one, you're going to be alright. I'll take care of you."
Sablepaw stared up at his second cousin, eyes as round as the moon. Still, she could see trust in the young tom's eyes. He knew she would do exactly as she said.

When Emberfang had recovered her balance and was about to rush into battle, Cliffheart, as he said he would do, knocked her aside and pulled her down behind a bush. "I'm not going to hurt you, I just want you to listen to me. If you want to survive you need to take the patrol and run back to the camp as fast as possible. Don't let up until you get there. We're going to take Sablepaw with us, but I can assure you that he'll be perfectly safe amongst his clanmates. We'll protect him. Now there's no time for questions." He looked up and saw Nightfang talking to Sablepaw gently, and the sense of urgency filled him. "Go! Now!" he snarled to Emberfang, leaping away from the she-cat. "Get out!"

A bewildered Emberfang watched as Cliffheart jumped away. For a moment she couldn't think. She watched as strange cats lashed out and began to tear her patrol apart. With fear she yowled out, "Retreat! Retreat!" The Lionclan patrol broke away from the fighting and began to race away.

Nightfang watched with relieve as her clan mates managed to get away. However a battle-hungry Whitewhisker watched the cat's race away, bloodlust in his eyes. He let out a cruel laugh as he called out, "Don't let them go now boys! I want to see some cat's sent to Starclan tonight!" He roared with laughter and raced after the Lionclan patrol. Nightfang watched in horror as her mentor locked in on Jaymask. He intention was to kill her.

Thunderstep stood beside Ottertail and Yelloweye. Despite the other toms' loyalty to Tigerclan and hunger for battle, the Tigerclan cats stood rooted in place. Their faces stricken with shock at Whitewhisker's need for blood. Hatred filled Thunderstep and he raced forward. He yowled out for the only other cat he could trust. "Cliffheart!" He bolted after Whitewhisker, claws unsheathed and intent on stopping the sick and twisted warrior from killing the Lionclan she-cat.
