Emili took a moment to let Dex's words register. Slowly she turned and closed the front door. As Dex sat back down, Emili took a few strides to sit down next to her. She studied the wall as Dex continued. "I apologize if my questions were strange. I truly do not understand the more subtle human emotions. I only wished to listen to you clarify what you meant. I meant no offense." She fell silent and turned her face to Dex, her eyes as sincere as they ever were, "I understand when things don't make sense anymore. However, i don't understand your feelings toward Ghost Town." Emili hesitated, she looked away and asked rather softly, "What does it... Feel like?" She turned back to Dex, "I don't understand. What sort of things happen when professional emotions become... Something more."

Smiling softly, Valerie thought carefully. "Well, you know, it's different for everyone. But for me... it's thrown me for a loop. Honestly, I just don't know how to act so I - never mind, I did that before. I guess it's just how I feel around him. Like, I get nervous easier and worry about what he thinks about me more, yeah?" Wringing her hands nervously, she laughed. "Again, it's sort of like hunger. You just know. I mean, I don't know. Maybe it's just a little crush - maybe it's more. I don't really know. But for me to identify this as being more is pretty big. Usually professional relationships are strictly thus - professional - and I've never actually felt this before. Well, maybe once, but I was young and stupid. I'm still young and stupid but not as stupid. But, ah, that's not the point. The point is that you just sort of know. And even though you're an AI, I'm sure you'd know, too. If your heart skips a beat, if you worry about that person more than anyone else. If you don't know what to say around them." Giggling slightly, she rubbed the back of her neck. "Maybe I'm describing it wrong. But that's how I feel and know. I'm sorry, that probably wasn't helpful."

Daniel followed behind Ghost-Town, while being rather moody. He wanted to return back to the mission, because Daniel had felt the time everyone had spent away from each other was very boring. He hurried so he was walking next to Ghost Town, and looked up at the dark-hairred man's brown eyes. "You two seem to bicker." He spoke, breaking the silence. "You and Dex. I've noticed that in the past events that had happened." Daniel sighed, a little bit of a whistle sound came from his nose. "Is there anything I should know, or do you two just really hate each other?" Daniel raised a brow.

Emili nodded softly through Dex's little speech. She didn't quite understand all of it, but it made sense in a way. When it got to a heart skipping a beat, she let out a short laugh. The AI looked down to the floor, "I wouldn't know about hearts skipping beats. Considering I don't really have a heart. I've got a power core, but I doubt that's the same thing." She turned and gave the woman a smile, "I've noticed that Ghost Town does seem to get a little more heated up when he's around you. I've got thermal scanners and he turns a bright red in color when you two argue or when he gets embarrassed. Almost the same way that you do." She turned and looked to the ground again, "I wouldn't be surprised if he had the same sort of thoughts that you do."

Ghost Town gave the smaller man a frown, "So what if we argue? You and I argue. Is there anything you should know about that as well?" Ghost town turned his face so that he could look at the man better, "I could ask you about how you seem to be spending an awful lot of time with Emili. I've seen the way you look at her. Just remember, she's an AI. Not a human." Ghost Town looked forward again, "Don't trouble the poor thing more than she needs." He knew he hadn't answered Shepard's question, but he couldn't help it. He wasn't about ready to tell this man that perhaps he was feeling more than a Commander should about his followers. How could he hide it though? It seemed that everyone else could already tell that Ghost Town felt more than he should. Stifling a smile at the memory of Dex holding his hand, Ghost Town led the way back to Shadow and to the apartments.

Valerie smiled softly. "I'd love it if it turned out he reciprocated my feelings, but if he doesn't that's perfectly acceptable to me. It's just a part of life. Plus, like I said, professional relationships should stay strictly professional... And, Emili, you might not have a physical heart, but you have a proverbial heart." Pausing for a moment, she stretched out her lips and sighed. "So, Emili, tell me, what's it like to be an AI? Instead of hearts skipping beats, what do you feel? Instead of hunger, what are you told? Instead of getting tired, what happens? You've seen us - but I've never seen or asked you."

Daniel felt his face grow a little warm at the remark Ghost Town made about Emili. "I was only trying to ask a simple question." He looked down at his feet and remained quiet the rest of the way, until they reached the apartments. Then he looked back at Ghost Town. "Should we tell them we are back? Or should we just let them guess?" Daniel frowned at Ghost Town, and folded his arms over his chest. Daniel wanted to hit Ghost Town with the butt of his gun, but he didn't bring it. So frustraiting. He thought with bitterness.

Emili was surprised that Dex has asked her about herself. It took the AI a moment to gather her thoughts. She looked away and pondered. "Well," she started, "I have an power core that is where my heart should be. Since I've no idea what a heart feels like then I have idea how to compare. I do know that human hearts beat though." She glanced at Dex, "My power core doesn't beat... Rather... it hums." She frowned and looked away, "I don't feel hunger, instead I have a energy reader built in to my vision. I can turn it off so I don't have to pay attention to it. However, when I am running low on energy a red flashing warning comes across my eyes and I know that I am dangerously low on power." The AI's hands tensed. "Its strange since I've no idea what human vision looks like. I've got words that cross my eyes like a holo-interface screen. I read these words and warnings while simultaneously trying to understand the current environment." Emili pressed her fingers to her temple, "Its hard to explain... I don't feel anything. I don't get tired. I have never been fatigued. I only know one state of being and that's on. My mind is always aware. I don't sleep, I don't eat. I am either conscious or turned off. When I power down there is no darkness. Only words telling me that I am powering down and in the next instant it tells me I am powering up. Numbers flash across my vision telling me that I have been shut down for a certain amount of time... But that has no meaning to me. I wasn't asleep and I don't dream. I am always on." Emili tensed, this existence of hers was rather depressing.

William motioned with his hand for Shepard to go first, "Why don't you knock on Dex's door? Better yet, why not Emili's?" A sly grin spread on William's face, "Then again you might be too chicken to do it." Of course the man was only deflecting. It was in fact William who was to chicken to knock on Dex's door. He didn't know how he was going to face her. Would the acknowledge that they had held hands all through the night? Would they ignore one another? That was one thing he didn't want. He hated it when she ignored him.

"Must you mock me?" Daniel growled. "Emili is an AI, I just happen to be interested in AIs because I am specialized in that area of tech." His eyes trailed to Dex's door, then back to Ghost Town. "And there is no other meaning to that. She is a companion, nothing more." Daniel jabbed his finger into Ghost Town's chest. "And if you want me to knock on the door so bad, you do it." Daniel sneered at the taller man, then turned his back to him and mumbling insulting but incoherent words.

"That's really, interesting, you know," replied Valerie in a low voice. "I think it's so interesting - and I mean this honestly. You don't sleep and you don't dream - you aren't burdened by fatigue or nightmares. No darkness..." Silence enveloped them and Valerie sat there for a moment. With a soft laugh, Valerie look at Emili. "You know, when I was training for this, I had a crippling fear of the dark? Nobody knew. No one knows but you. I couldn't even close my eyes - people had to knock me out. I'm over it now - I got help from someone - but it's still weird, you know? You don't have to worry about fears. You're lucky. Fear is what makes us do crazy things. Fear of rejection makes me hope even more. Fear of losing makes me want to succeed even more. It's a messy thing, fear." Tracing shapes on her knees, she sighed quietly.

Emili frowned softly as she listened to Dex. It was true, she really didn't see darkness. Not even when she was in a place with no light source. She had built in night vision scanners. It was practically impossible for her to see anything but light. A rueful smile twisted her lip up, "Fear... Sometimes I wish I could understand it. I don't fear, but I can't love. I can't do anything which you humans can. I am a machine and therefore have the benefits of not being burdened by them but..." She turned to Dex, "Sometimes I really wish I was. They can be a burden, but they can be a blessing."

William tensed at Shepard's challenge, "Alright, you little jerk. I'll knock." He turned from the smaller man and headed for Dex's door. He breathed in deeply as he approached, no hearing the conversation going on inside. William raised his hand and made a small semi-soft rap on the door. He waited a moment, awkwardness flowing through him. Hopefully she would not answer and he could go about his business.
