William's brows furrowed at her words. His heart pounded at what she said and his blood boiled when he thought about what they had to do. Stomping after her he reached for her arm, intending to swing her around. However, she as always was aware of his every move and avoided his hand altogether. Frowned heavily and passed her. He turned and held up his hand to stop her. Leaning his face close to hers, his brown eyes confused at the words 'I love you' but his face feral at her other words. He hissed lowly, "You mean more to me than I care to admit Dex, but I will not let you kill the innocent. Enough blood is on our hands. I'd sooner die than late others suffer like they have in New America under NAGA." His voice dropped low and his eyes lit with fire, "And you'd make a dangerous enemy of me if you think I'd let you take control of the Patriot Squad." He shot a glance back at his mother before turning them back to Dex. He could feel the already strenuous weight being forced upon their fledgling feelings, "Until all other options have been tried, I will not let anyone detonate that nuclear explosion. Not over my dead body." His words didn't ring hollow. If Dex wanted to take control of the Patriots, and the mission, she would have to use lethal force against him. The hair on the back of his neck stood up and he knew he'd forever regret his words. Dex's trust in him was as thin as a string and could be cut by anything. Turning from her he continued his way after the other group.

Daniel stared wide-eyed at the scene. "If..." he spoke out, "If we were to detonate, but able to maybe, pull up shields if the NAGA building has any, maybe we could keep the blast closed inside the shields. Though someone may have to stay behind to keep the shields going." The idea sounded as bad as the first one. "Perhaps we may be able to do that."

OOC; Are we able to do that? o.o"

Turning to Shepard, she quickly sent him a look that told him to stay put then turned back to Ghost Town. "You insufferable fool! A few deaths means nothing! People die every single day. And their deaths will create a safe haven for future generations! Ghost Town - I am all on your point of view here but there is little we can do to stop this. So please. Listen." Pausing, she rubbed her temples as she strode to catch up to him. "We separate then. I take an infiltration squad in and you evacuate the precious city or whatever." She knew that was a risky proposition so she took a deep breath. Folding her arms across her chest, she thought carefully. What would get Ghost Town to stop? As an idea came to mind, she swallowed thickly, knowing this was dangerous. But he needed to understand that this would save more than what he was seeing. Scowling, Valerie let air hiss through her clenched teeth. She knew this would be a low blow, however she took the shot. "I mean more than you care to admit? What does that mean, William."

William stopped. His last step making an eerie echo through the sanctuary. His brows knitted together and his fist clenched. The words that Shepard had spoken were gone from his mind as soon as Dex said his name. The word 'William' dropped to the floor and all fell silent. He turned his head to the side so that she could see his cheek, his nose and the edge of his furrowed brow. He said nothing for a long time. The silence extended between them. "What did you call me?" His voice like the calm before the storm. His brown eyes glinted in the soft candle-like light of the grand hall. The man's shoulders tensed as he turned around to look at her. His mouth sat in a hard line across his face.
The Outcast Squad had quickly made their escape out of the Sanctuary. William wasn't paying attention but Emili had observed the rise in body heat between him and Dex. She quickly grabbed Shepard's arm and pulled him along with her so they were a good distance away. Gloria had already left the sanctuary so that it was only William and Dex standing across from each other.
His body turned to face her an he stood at his full height. His head hung forward a little making him look like a dangerous jungle cat. He knew that if he were to actually fight Dex physically, she'd beat him flat out. Still, he'd be able to give her a few scars to remember him by. Subconsciously he knew he couldn't hurt her, nor did he ever want to. But now with rage filling every corner of his mind, he wasn't thinking straight.

ooc; i'm not sure what compelled me to put valerie into a row like this. my apologies. OTL i'm a terrible person. really she's just caring but she's absolutely terrible at emotions.

ic;
Arms folded across her chest, she remained expressionless as her eyes narrowed slightly. "You heard me, fool." Pursing her lips, she took a breath before they barely parted and the name floated between them. "William." Taking a step back, her arms made a sweeping motion as she looked around her at nothing in particular. Quickly, though, her gaze settled on him again. "I am no longer and Dex and you are no longer Ghost Town and we are no longer living in a fairy tale." Her green gaze was hard. "Go ahead. Beat me with your fists - see how much that will change this tragic story." Her expression was a sneer, lip curled over her teeth. She was done with this. She didn't want to fight with him - to hit a low blow. But she decided that truly, this was no fairy tale and there was no more Patriots, no matter how hard they lied to each other and themselves. "You know, in a tragic, the valiant hero is gifted with a deathly flaw, William. We both live in the same tragedy. But whose life will end?" Taking a step back, she stares at the dais, muscles taut in her back. "Will it be me? With my lack of emotions? Or will it be you with your surplus of emotions that lead to impulsive and deadly actions?" Looking to him, she shifted her position so she mimicked him. A wicked smile was placed on her lips. "We are valiant heroes but what are we now?" Looking to William, her eyes held a far-away sadness. Her arms hung at her sides as she took a deep breath and stretched her arms. "I know I just dealt a low blow, but... Grow up. This isn't going to end up how you want it, William. This is war, not some game for children. So go back home if this is going to be your outlook on war." Her eyes were shielded again with a hardness and her voice held a cold edge. She had not noticed thelack of people around her, nor did she care. "I told you - 'Such a child' - but you never listen. If you go out there, let me tell you that I will die before standing beside you once more. These few days have made you soft, William. Remember what war is about? Or did some woman change your mind?" She couldn't evade the bitterness in the tone of her final statement. But that wasn't what her argument was about. No, rather, she wasn't sure anymore. He was being foolish and so was she. There was no more hopes for her and that's all he was full of. They were a tragedy with an undefined hero. And she, for some twisted reason, was okay with that. As long as she was the tragic hero. I want people to say my name with disgust and admiration.

OOC: If you're a horrible person than so am I XD I sorta started this mess X3

IC:
William tensed further with every remark she made. He felt his burning rage enflame to the point he could hardly contain it. His eyes flashed and his mouth formed a sneer as well. "A tragedy?" He seethed, "Oh I'm more than sure that's what we are, and why shouldn't we be?" He swept his hand about the room, "Look at all this. This isn't where we belong. Heck, we're a tragic comedy for the powers of the universal to get their sick pleasure and laughter." His hand dropped to his side, "We don't stand an ice cube's chance in heck with what we plan to do." He looked directly in to her eyes, their gazes never wavering as they challenged one another, "Is it wrong to hope that I can make a difference here? That I can save just one life on a just path as opposed to the ends justifying the means?" He spat darkly, "I've no shame in my opinion. I remember exactly what war was about, but the wars I played in were for Bio-Agents, creatures with no feeling or choice of their own." William's fist clenched and he pounded it against his chest cruelly, "But I'm not a Bio-Agent! I'm human! I have feelings and emotions and a duty to do any kind of good that I can for the weak." His shoulders shook as he roared, "I only do this so that maybe you'll finally smile! That maybe I can save you from that wall you've built for yourself. Is it so wrong to believe that I can create a better future for you without the blood of children being spent?!" His eyes went wild and his words echoed in sanctuary. The words they spat at one another could not be taken away now.

Pausing for a second, she regarded him with a guarded gaze. "I never asked for your help. I built these walls for a reason. I am like this for a reason," she replied in an even voice. Turning squarely to him, she blinked slowly and took one last step back. "Maybe I think it's you who should smile. Maybe I'm fighting like this so you can have a future. Maybe I'm scared. Maybe I don't want to fight. I'm human like you, William, and the funny thing about humans is that we all react to overwhelming events differently. Isn't that fun?" Every sentence she took a step back, her voice even and cold, though a maniacal humor in her last sentence. Looking to the side, she closed her eyes then regarded him with a bored gaze. She wasn't tired of arguing but she had once again reigned in her emotions. "William, if we are both in a tragedy, then who's the tragic hero?" With a rueful smile, she clasped her hands behind her back. "I hope it's me. I want it to be me." With a pause she looked him in the eyes. "The funny thing is that in tragedies, the hero dies."

William's eyes darkened. He was tired of this game. He sneered heavily and spat, "Fine. Be the dang hero if you want. I'm tired of this. Play your games all you want. Continue to think of this as nothing more than a play, a story for others. Lead the team, I don't give a dang." He turned away from her, his hand thrown up in to a dismissive gesture. "I'm promoting you to Commander, Valerie." He shot a glance behind him, "You might want to tell Shepard though, since he's really next in line." Turning forward again he left the Sanctuary, his mind racing with the words he instantly regretted. What was he going to do now? Things weren't the same. He wasn't the same person he was two weeks ago. His mouth set in to a hard line and his heart growing colder with every step. If they really were a tragedy, this seemed a fitting end to whatever feelings she and he had felt.

Valerie waited a few minutes before following him, a safe smile on her face as she once again clasped her hands behind her back. Eyes closing and head being thrown back, she felt all tense feelings leave her body. She hated that. She knows he probably hates her now but she doesn't care. She'll take it, despite how much it hurts. She doesn't care - she reallyreallyreally does - and she won't dwell on her actions and she will stay strong. She will because she told herself she would. She will because she knows something he does not. Strong strides powering her out of the Sanctuary, she smiled brightly. "As the hero, I'll make sure you don't die. That's all I wanted. I'm fighting for your future. I just hope you can forgive me." As she continued walking towards the others, her expression remained serious. She had to keep up this act. And she was perfectly fine doing it.

"Do whatever you like Dex, its what your good at," he snarled as he continued to follow the distant lights of their group ahead. When they approached the hanger bay he headed straight for the Panthera. The Outcast group went to another, larger ship that wasn't nearly as sleek or as beautiful. It would do its job however and that's what was important. As he jumped aboard the Panthera he headed to the common area. He sat down at a table, his eyes dark but filled with lightning. He noticed, faintly, that the lights flickered on as Emili uploaded her conscious to the ship. She waited a moment before asking, "Your order's Commander?"
William bristled and glared at the wall, "I'm not Commander."
Emili stayed silent for a moment. The confusion in her voice was obvious when she did speak, "What do you mean Commander?"
He snarled at her, "I mean I've given command over to Agent Dex. She is now the commanding officer of the Panthera."
Emili replied cooly, "There is proticol to be followed Commander. Lieutenant Shepard is in line to b-"
"I said Valerie is the new Commander!" he roared.
Emili fell silent. She waited a moment before replying as coldly as she could, "Very well Agent Ghost Town. You have just been relieved of your command. Agent Valerie 'Dex' Soot has been promoted to active commanding officer. Will that be all Agent?" William said nothing. After a moment Emili spoke, "Very well Agent. Logging you out."
