Alrighty. So we're in the process of updating the rules of the RPG forum to be more... consistent... with what we're seeing today. That includes removing some rules, adding a few, and modifying others -- and as there are a few debates that the mods and I are having on several of the rules, we figured the best way to get a final decision would be to get the opinions of you, the members.
Currently, what I'm looking into editing the current rules (shown below) into consists of the italicized notes below.
"Rules: 1. You must get permission from a moderator to start a roleplay. Please tell that moderator what your RP will be about. We also will make sure you will update your RP often and not leave the forum forever once you've made your RP. We must be able to trust you. Will probably edit this into a simple trust rule, as, from what I know, this rule has never really been followed before in the past. 2. Only 8-10 people are allowed in one RP. The starter of the Roleplay or the characters of the Roleplay can determine the limit. After the RP has been going for a while, if the RP maker is allowed to open more spots for other RPers to join, but you cannot exceed 15. This rule is 99% likely to go, as, really, there is no need for a limit on players. 3. If you are a Medicine Cat/Deputy/Leader in one role-play, you may NOT be any of those positions in any other RP until your Med. Cat/Deputy/Leader character is dead or retired. An outdated rule that applies basically only to Warriors RPGs, of which there are so few that this rule is not necessary. 4. Posts must be at least two lines long, minimum. The examples below are considered cheating and are strictly forbidden: Ex. 1: She sighed and sat down. She was very sad. "Why me?"
Ex. 2 She sighed and lay down, very sad.
Mods have permission to delete any posts under three lines. One of the debates going on is whether to get rid of this rule or not. The current proposal is to make this merely a suggestion, and leave it to the creator of a role-play to decide if they want to have a line requirement or not. 5. If someone says something out of character that relates to their character (eg, they are the chosen one), your character can not suddenly know that thing about the character. This rule talks about meta-gaming, and it will be kept. An additional rule regarding god-modding will also be added, as it relates to this, with both terms being defined. 6. Use OOC (out of character) and IC (in character). No changes will be made to this rule. 7. When making an RP, your RP members and you MUST agree on a prophecy/summary before doing ANY RPing. Will be removed, as the plot of the RPG is up to the creator to decide. Open-plot games will still be allowed, however. 8. The starter of the RP MUST include a Characters List on his/her first post. Not necessarily in the first post, but this rule will still be kept. 9. The starter of the RP must be online very often and must be on his/her RP often. Unless you're busy and can't post for a while. :P 10. If the person who started the RP abandons their RP for over a week without an explanation (appropriate explanations include vacations and all that, though you must tell a mod beforehand in order to save your RP position) then your RP could be closed or somebody else could be asked to take over your RP. Another debated rule. The time period that you have before an RPG is closed -- currently one week -- is going to be expanded to either two or three weeks. 11. If two people wanted to start an other RP on the same subject (ex. Twilight) then the mods and I will pick the person who had a better storyline, rules, etc. (Overall, better quality.) Again, will be kept, though the wording will be made clearer. 12. Do NOT plaugerise someone elses' roleplay, be it on this forum or another. If any role-play is found to have been a plaugerised copy, it will be closed immediately. Again, will be kept. 13. Roleplays that have been inactive for six days will recieve a warning, and if still not posted on by the seventh day be closed and fed to the Archives board. Again, inactivity period will be made longer.
Posting? When RPing, posts like this (even in character) are forbidden. Person 1: Hi. Person 2: Hello. Person 1: How is your day? Person 2: Good. Person 3: I like pie.
This is known as script mode, and it does not constitute as actual RPing, since you: 1. Can not show emotion, unless you say, *Cries*, *Laughs*, ETC. 2. Can not show humor without the use of, *Grins* 3. It's an outline. 'Nuff said.
This section will be reworded, but kept, and script mode will continue to be banned; RPGs are meant to be like books, not like movie scripts.
Limits Here are the current limits for RPs: For Warriors RPs, the current limit is unlimited. For other RPs, the current limit is unlimited.
This section always baffled me, considering it has never been updated and there has never been a limit on anything. So it'll be removed."
So yeah. Essentially, what I'm looking for here are your opinions on:
1. The inactivity period. Should an RPG be closed after two, three or four weeks of inactivity? Two weeks still seems too short and one month seems too long, so the most likely end point is three weeks.
2. The line requirement. Should players in all RPGs be required to post at least two lines; should there not be a requirement at all; or should it be made optional, with the requirement depending on whether or not the creator of an RPG wants it?
For the longest time I thought I was the only one following this part of this rule, but I have seen RPs closed due to not getting permission. In other words, this rule has been followed, but you never really notice it is. +P
Has it? Hm... Perhaps i misinterpreted was I was told...
Especially since it's been forever since I was told what I was told. XP
At any rate, if that's the case -- and the mods shiould confirm it if so :) -- then I'll leave it as is and expand the trust note into another rule. ^_^
Probably not a good idea to get rid of it at any rate if Moonie and the others are concerned about people spamming; people creating extra role-plays without notice would make that problem even bigger, and we don't want that, soo... XP

HAHAHA the limits used to have limitations, but then I decided to get rid of the limits and didn't want anybody to think they still existed, since I didn't formally announce it, so I just wrote unlimited and it stayed there for like a hundred years... Yeah, I get roleplay messages fairly often. I always approve them. But it stops an overflow of roleplays in my opinion. I think the closing period should be three weeks and there should be a two line minimum. Technically, one line... what I mean is an entire line filled up and the second line having at least one word. But just my opinion. I don't roleplay really anymore so I don't REALLY deserve a say in this haha.
Nice new rules. This will take care of a lot of our rp problems. Maybe now people might even enjoy rping more then usual. *Shrugs* You never know. This could be a something that makes many people very happy.

Assuming I word it like that (two lines with at least one word in the second line,) do you mind if I add a note indicating when it's okay to not write that much?
For example, if my character is answering a yes or no question.
I agree a little with editing the limitations on how many users can join the roleplay. However, if we have like 150 users role playing in the same topic and you get so many posts reacting to yours, then that may be a little difficult...although due to some inactivity in users and due to the fact that normally only about 5=6 people usually join a roleplay ((maybe more)) then sure, that would be reasonable.
EDIT:
*reads a forum thread about it not being manditory and beingup to the rp creators*
BLAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAA I should've read that first. Oh well. o3o

Wyvernclaw: Sure, go ahead. It's still a bit skecthy though. Make it very clear that the sentence must still be detailed and you sometimes your character might want to elaborate more rather than just saying yes or no (for example, your character is talking to someone they have a crush on, they're probably freaking out on the inside behind the "yes" and you should definitely touch on that). I would hate seeing a post with just "'Yes,' she said" which most people know not to do, but yeah, just make it clear!
Moonie: So in that case... it sounds like I might as well just make the requirement, "One detailed line per post." Cause if it still has to be detailed and the second line only has to have one word... way force that second line at all? It seems extremely unnecessary.
Scorch: As you said, RPGs hardly ever exceed more than a certain number of people (which is mostly due to the limit, but alas.) So that shouldn't be an issue.
The other thing is, if it gets to where there are a lot of posts being made, there's a simple solution that people need to learn to follow: Only read the posts that immediately pertain to you. Coming from the "RPG city," so to speak, it's something I've picked up quickly.
At any rate, I can't see something like that being an issue on here at all; those high activity periods tend to go away really quickly, and that gives you more time to read the other posts. Not to mention, we don't have 150 active role-players here. :P
