RE: RPG Forum Rule Changes -- Member Opinions~

Wyvern: Agreed XD I learned that much along the way as well. If the other posts have no significance or make any changes to your character it's easier to focus on one post. SO, anyways that's my interpretive discussion. ^--^

All righty; first draft. Sorry it took so long -- been busy with stuff.

Rules:

1. You must get permission from a moderator to start a roleplay. Before posting the RPG, PM a moderator with a copy of your game; once you receive a response giving you permission, you may post the RPG and begin playing whenever you are ready.

2. All in-character (IC) posts must be at least one detailed line long. Certain exceptions will be made if there is absolutely no way to write a post that is more than a few words long -- for example, if your character is answering a Yes/No question that can only be answered with "Yes" or "No."

3. Do remember, even with the above in mind, that RPGs are stories. As such, you should always try to make your posts as detailed as possible for the sake of narration, as well as making the world you are playing in more detailed and enjoyable.

4. Meta-Gaming and God-Modding are strictly off limits. For those who don't know, meta-gaming is the act of using OOC knowledge to your advantage; for example, Josh tells Mary something, and then you immediately make your character, who is nowhere near them, know what has been said.

Similarly, God-Modding is, simply put, playing unfairly, be it in combat (never letting an opponent hit you) or in general interactions (making your person perfect and the center of attention.) This is not cool and should not be done, so don't do it.

5. When making a post in an RPG, be sure to use both the IC (In Character) and OOC (Out Of Character) tags. These tags distinguish information/narration in the story from conversation outside of the story. For an example usage:

IC: James walked down the street, trying his best to ignore the rain as he searched for his missing dog.

OOC: What a sad situation. :(

6. The creator of an RPG must include a list of characters somewhere within the first page of their RPG, preferably within the first three posts.

7. The creator of an RPG must stay active in his or her RPG. If you know you are not going to be able to get online for more than a week, be sure to post and let your players know. Similarly, if you are running an RPG and you disappear without an explanation for over a week, your RPG will either be closed or the responsibility of running it handed over to another player, depending on the activity of the game.

8. If an RPG has gone without any new posts for three full weeks, it will be closed and moved to the Archive.

9. No more than one RPG may be based off of a specific source material; for instance, there can only be one Harry Potter RPG at any given time, or one Twilight RPG, etc.

If two RPGs are submitted that are based off of the same story, the moderating team will decide on which one to allow, taking into account the activity of the Game Masters, their trustworthiness, which of the two is of better quality, etc.

The only exceptions to this rule are original RPGs, which, while they may have similar premises, do not necessarily overlap.

10. Do not plagiarize the work of another person. If an RPG is found to have been plagiarized, it will be closed immediately.

11. Script Mode is not allowed, as it is not an effective way or asthetically pleasing way of role-playing. For an example of script mode:

Person 1: So did you see that rain?

Person 2: Yup; I'm sorry to say my entire street was flooded.

Person 1: [Gasps] Is that so?

Person 2: 'fraid so...

As shown, script mode encourages the idea of "telling, not showing;" and as role-plays are essentially community-written books, this wriitng style is not effective in doing what books and stories are meant to do -- showing, not telling with words.
